Pixel Eyewear Review

Happy Saturday loves!

So let me say how frightful the weather is this past week. There’s been precipitation on days that weather channels have predicted all day sun. Well you know what that means…staying in and more than likely being on my IPad. I’m always reading, surfing the net and researching.

Spending so much time online, especially since it’s dark in the room (it now gets dark in the four o’clock hour) because I don’t always have the lights on. I like the light on my pad to be really bright! My husband constantly complains about this light because it keeps him up. Well, this is true actually. The light is quite stimulating, especially for the person on the pad…me! I’ve been trying to figure out a solution besides turning down the light on my pad lol.

I’ve tried screen covers but I loathe them. They just seem to be “in the way”. Recently I was offered an amazing solution: eyewear made for being on electronic devices with bright screens! Pixel Eyewear (how accurate is that name?) is a company that provides protective eyewear specifically for those always attached a bright screen.

Pixel Eyewear boasts style and functionality so you don’t have to worry about looking crazy or terribly silly while protecting your eyes. You can continue to be stylish and look studious while working.

Just a brief rundown of the features of these glasses:

1. They have a blue filter that absorbs and reflects the infamous blue light that will cause eye strain and keep us up at night.

2. Allows for more a vivid viewing experience because it enhances the the colors in objects on your screen. (So not having that blue light blaring doesn’t take away from the intensity of color.)

3. These glasses are made with care. They will provide the eyes with 100% UV-protection (and the harmful blue light that eventually damages our eyes). The glasses are also anti-glare and scratch resistant.

4. Various sizes and styles to fit everyone. This is not one-size-fits all deal!

If you still have questions after reading my post, be sure to check out their website and FAQ for more information. In the meantime, if you’re interested in buying, I have a coupon code. Cause who doesn’t like to shop with one? Need help deciding which pair to get? Well (I did and I ended up grabbing the Capra in black) so check out their IG page or Website to get more inspiration!

The "Purple Love" Experience

I had the pleasure of being invited to an event in Detroit that showcases Detroit’s own fabulous designers and business owners. The event, held at the Eastern Market, drew in folks from all over the metropolitan area to see what Detroit’s own had to offer. My invitation was extended by Brittany, owner and operator of Purple Love, a jewelry boutique.

The event displayed fancy, classic, as well as boho statement pieces. I was very impressed with not only the jewelry but the business as a whole. The owner is very sweet and fashionable herself. (I loved her boots btw, I have a similar pair lol).  The event offered mimosas, and other beverages among an array of yummy treats. There were gift bags for everyone invited that was in attendance filled with goodies. I thought the event ended at a later time (and arrived at the very end) but the owner was more than willing to still show me around and share what Purple Love had to offer. I got a few pieces after I tried on and fell in love with them. The pieces definitely catch the eye and are true statement pieces. Most necklaces come with earrings to match. If you like, check out Purple Love on Instagram and support Detroit! She included a 15% off coupon for all of my followers to get a discount to shop for great, stylish pieces. I’ve included the coupon code and pictures below! Until tomorrow…

Review: "Layered Chains" (Updated)

Disclaimer: I purchased the items mentioned in this review with my own money.

I am a person that loves to try new things so when I came across a company on Instagram, I was eager to check them out. The thing about the company that I loved was that it boasted lovely and semi-dainty jewelry for very reasonable prices. The items that I saw did not look like “every other” jewelry company on Instagram. The company has not only trendy pieces, but they have timeless style pieces that are versatile to go with any outfit. I love that they have sales on a certain piece on Fridays and the sales are phenomenal. Usually the sale price is about $5!! That is definitely within anyone’s budget, especially those trying to save money and not spend a lot on staple pieces.

I ordered my jewelry on a Friday as I couldn’t refuse the sale on the gorgeous studs I spotted on Instagram. Honestly going on the site specifically purchase the earrings, I got sucked in by all the beautiful pieces that I saw. I ended up buying a gold bangle along with my earrings. Believe me when I say it’s truly hard to choose just one item lol. After placing my order, I immediately received an email confirming my purchase with the order detail. The following Monday was a ‘holiday’ so the package took about 4 business days to get to me. Since the shipping is inexpensive, I was very pleased with the shipping time. The owner is really sweet and promptly answers any questions or concerns you may have.

When I received my items, they were carefully packaged and wrapped along with a handwritten thank you card. Each piece comes in its own satchel that has gold “writing” of the company’s name. I opened both satchels to be pleasantly surprised because the pieces I ordered looked even better in person than online. The gold bangle is absolutely stunning with diamond cuts that allow light to dance off of it to make a beautiful sparkle. The knot adds perfect detail to ‘beef up’ the daintiness of the piece. I can’t wait to wear it! The earrings are a GREAT deal for just 5 bucks! Seriously! I’ve been looking for a nice pair of studs that can be worn for both casual and classy occasions and these definitely fit the bill. The quality is excellent!

All in all, I am very happy with my experience & purchase and would urge you to check out Layered Chains if you haven’t already. The price point is great. I’m a girl on a budget so I love a place where I can purchase an item that looks more expensive than the actual price. The customer service is great and the shipping is prompt. If you don’t know what to purchase, follow them on Instagram and check out the sales they have on Fridays. If you would like to purchase, I have a personal coupon code below. You can use it until December 31, 2015. I promise you will LOVE what you get! Check out the pics and let me know what you think!

Casual Friday: Early Fall Boots

Salut! It’s Friday!!

I am so happy to be able to pop on a sweater, especially in brisk & windy weather. I really wanted to wear a skirt although I opted against that idea. There is plenty enough time for that considering the weather is still feeling like summer some days. (Who am I kidding? I still will wear skirts when it’s cold.) No complaints here since winter will be upon us but it’s just is nice to wear some fall apparel for a change.

I chose faux leather leggings to be instantly stylish but comfy.  I paired my faux leather leggings with a nice balance of a (thrifted) basic sweater. I tied a denim shirt around my waist for a little bit of “trend”.  The sweater is not bulky (although being a bit big on me) and is perfect for 60 degree weather and no coat.  Still incorporating some summer fun into my fall wardrobe, I’m wearing thigh high open toe wedge boots. These Jeffrey Campbell “boots” I purchased years ago….please don’t hate me because I don’t remember where.  The sunnies I bought from eBay. My clutch, (which you will be seeing a lot of) I love and it was on sale from American Apparel. I paid 21 bucks including shipping! Please let me know what you think. If you are not already, follow me on Instagram: @thestylecake. If you loved this post, keep a lookout for the new post on Monday!

Happy Weekend Cupcakes!! 💋

Casual Friday

Warning: short post!

Brisk air, wind strong enough to mock Chicago’s windy days and not much sun called for the appropriate: a blazer. I bought this blazer a couple years back at a thrift store. It’s so great for the trends this fall and the color screams fall! My jeans are from H&M ($9.99) and my statement necklace & shoes, eBay. The shoes aren’t my favorite, the quality is well…I paid only $14.99 for them so they look and feel like the price. Ugh. Lesson learned. My crop tee is a Forever 21 purchase and the clutch, American Apparel. Let me know what you think! Pics to follow, talk to you Monday cupcakes!!

"Modestly Modifed Maxi"

This is probably the last summer post I will be doing this year. Temperatures are now in the 60s and the wind has picked up with an occasional all day rain fall. For my last summer post, I decided to take a chance and wear a skirt that I had not worn yet. I bought this skirt years ago but because the style had become way too popular, I never wore it. Nothing much behind my idea. I wanted this look to still remain modest while maintaining the sexiness of the look. I decided to modestly modify the skirt by wearing a pair of biker shorts so my whole thigh and crotch area don’t get exposed. The skirt is from Urban Outfitters and the tank is from H&M. The clutch is from the clearance section of American Apparel and the shoes are Jeffrey Campbell. I only spent 40 bucks on them but they are so fab I would have paid more for them. They boast genuine suede, multiple straps up the leg and a zipper up the back for the ease of putting them on. For accessories I decided on a gold slave bracelet, hoop earrings and a vintage inspired gold toned watch. My headband was one dollar at the beauty supply store. It adds a rockstar touch for some edge to this look. Now that you know about the pieces in this look, let me know what you think! Til Friday for another post cupcakes!! 💋

First up, is this belt designed to have a similar look to a tutu but is actually a train.  I absolutely LOVE the results. If you do not have a sewing machine, you can still make this belt using a tutorial by clicking here. I did this for fun…Results of my DIY below!
