(How To) Midweek Casual + Slight Glam

When the kiddies are out of school, I am always planning ways to enjoy adulthood outside of being a mom. No school means no endless amounts of homework so I can get out after five during the week. Let me tell you, I certainly advise having a life lol. Anyhoo, going to grab drinks with the girls is always a good idea. No one wants to go out in full dressed gear on a weekday after a full day of juvenile activities and work. Well, some people want to still be a bit casual but have that after five appeal.

Lately, (because I think my style is again evolving) I’ve been less into boho and more into a polished, glam and classic look. It was a cooler day so I grabbed a white pair of jeans and paired it with a simple nude tank. Now, the colors are pretty muted but are a nice base to add some glam. So here’s the tip: the quickest way to glam up any look is to add black, sequins, or heels. All of these things are quite inexpensive. Always have a staple pair of simple heels that can be paired with any skirt, pants, shirts or dress. I chose my black feather heeled sandals and a sequin clutch bag for that easy and quick touch of glitz. This look is easy peezy, simple and quick. I’ll be doing more of these looks and morphing again style wise lol.

Styling The White Tank (Look #1)ย

So it’s officially summer!!! Yay!!! I don’t know about you but it’s my second favorite season! During the summer, it’s not fun to pile on a bunch of clothes when it’s hot. It’s been quite warm here in Michigan, some days topping off in 90s. I’m definitely nor complaining because the summer months always seem to fly by. Knowing it’s hot leads me to thinking about style in more of a minimalist way.

I decided, why not do a series of looks featuring every closet’s must have…a white tank top! For the first look, I’m styling the tank with a midi pencil skirt. This skirt is so comfortable, breathable and lightweight that it’s perfect for the summer. The color is a cornflower blue and is a nice compliment to the white. It’s not pastel so it doesn’t leave the outfit looking dainty or juvenile. I added a “lightweight” statement necklace so as to not overwhelm the look. I decided this look needed a bit of vamp so I strapped on my plum colored platform sandals. The plum color isn’t the only thing that adds to the boldness. The platforms elongates the body, giving the outfit a commanding look. The color offers a balance to the white and soft shade of blue while the necklace ties all the colors together against my bronzed tanned skin. My accessories are minimal to keep with the polished simplicity of this look. Side note: my hair is in an old wash n go. It’s time to wash but I’ll let you know how I like Curls Blueberry Jelly in a future post…

Rain Checkย

Even the most stylish bloggers have days when they’d much rather relax over getting dressed to the max. I promise I’m no different, in fact you guys have seen looks that I’ve worn toned and relaxed pieces. Those looks were authentic to my mood in that moment. Sometimes the weather is a sole determining factor in my mood (but just for a little while lol).

It’s been raining and that’s an awesome thing because I’m different than the person who LOVES sunshine everyday. I love a good cloudy day. To me, it encourages movies, a good book and good company. Who doesn’t like those things? Lol. Well, with all the rain I’ve been in more of a relaxed and chill mood. If you want to be stylish, a maxi dress is the easiest option. I thrifted a dress this past winter and it’s the perfect dress for the occasion. I’m fully relaxed, and can jump up to run errands if need be. My flat sandals are from Target. I wore minimal jewelry which further emphasizes my chilled look! I’ll take a rain check on getting dressed up (wink, wink). Let me know what you think!

Mixed Prints, Colors & Moods

Warning: short post…

One fashion trend that seems to never go out of style is mixing prints, patterns and colors. We see mixing all the time. Actually, not only are prints often mixed but so are fabrics.

I bought a micro-pleated skirt from Etsy a few months back and it’s a silk skirt that is bold with undefined color. It pretty much projects a rainbow of pinks, purples and other colors that of a reddish hue. There are turquoise and yellow that pop against the pinks. I LOVE multi colored prints that offer versatility in styling.

I grabbed my taupe and black striped bodysuit to pair with my multi-colored skirt. The black and taupe acts as a base against the color. My bodysuit is a bit off the shoulder and I just wore it with one shoulder out for a bit of sass. My heels are gladiator style to balance the look as well as the color and my handbag solidifies the look with a modern, sophisticated touch. I didn’t want the look to project as vintage so the bag detracts from that style. I have minimal accessories so as to not overwhelm the outfit with too many details. Check out the pics!

Lunchtime @Influenster Review of the #MarcGlowStick by @MarcBeauty (and #contest)

Hi cupcakes!

I know how Mondays can be be not the most flattering day of the week to our skin so I thought this review would be right on time! I was sent the Glow Stick, a highlighter by Marc Jacobs Beauty for review but I absolutely would have purchased this product if I hadn’t gotten it as a gift!

I’m a huge fan of dewy, glowy skin so when I tried this product I was immediately a fan. Honestly, I figured I’d like it because I prefer a cream based highlighter over powder anyways. In my opinion, the powders generally have too much glitter, too powdery or are too extreme in shine leaving the skin looking more made up than a healthy glow.

This highlighter adds glow, not a glittery streak. You don’t need a lot of this product because a little goes a very long way. Although the price point may be high for some, you won’t need to repurchase for a long time. The color is yellow gold based but has a bit of opalescence to it if that makes sense. I would personally apply this highlight AFTER I’ve applied all other facial products or BEFORE applying foundation for an even more natural glow. The product blends so well so you won’t see streaks nor do you have to worry about it being too thick that it applies too heavy. Lastly, the longevity of this product was fairly good. I pretty much maintained my manufactured (lol) glow throughout the day. I think the highlight looked even more natural as the day progressed. Wanna try it for yourself? Check out Sephora

If you have any questions let me know, let’s chat! New outfit post later but in the meantime…

I used unedited selfie cell phone pics so you can see in “real life” how the highlighter performs.

www.Birthofafashionblogger.com Collab: (How To) Summer Dressesย

It’s unofficially summer time and I was graced with an invitation to join Chanda from over at www.birthofafashionblogger.com to join her in a collaboration. Of course, I accepted! I love her blogging style and her blog is amazing, not to mention, have you seen her style?! So fabulous darling! My favorite look has to be the one where she wore a green floral print dress and no, I never forget a great outfit. If you have a chance to check out her blog, please do. She’s also a mommy and wife like I am, (she lives in Michigan too) and a Youtuber who does great styling videos…I LOVE her haulย look books!! I’m joining her in sharing how to style a maxiย dress. You can check out her post HERE. In the meantime, get a peek of her look below.

I love her look because it’s so effortlessly chic. I promise we didn’t plan to wear the same color but hey, you know what they say about great minds lol. This beautiful lady always wears fabulous looks and this time is no different. My FAVORITE part of her look is the actually two things lol, (because I couldn’t pick just one) is her dress paired with her handbag. Both are are so modern and classy. The black in the bag works perfectly making the normally neutral safari green pop! By the way, I don’t know about you but I’m going to go ahead and grab the same handbag in that black color!

Her outfit details:

Dress: (similar). Handbag: Francois by Justfab. Shoes: Charlotte Russe. Necklace: old.ย

Initially, I was going to style another dress but due to real life and mishaps lol, I opted for this dress as a great alternative and it worked out even better! I grabbed a nude tank dress and layered underneath a safari green crochet maxi. Now, I like this look because it offers an immediate day-to-night outfit in one. If you are out for the day (and then onto get drinks after five), you can easily just take the crochet dress right off. The nude dress acts not only as a base for the crochet dress but also for an additional look! No dramatic changing needed. The nude gives off an illusion and the crochet offers a laid back beachy detail that can be worn around town as well.

I paired the dress with a large straw bag that boasts colorful accents and enough room to carry essentials to freshen up and also can hold the clutch to be worn for the going to grab drinks. My shoes are snakeskin printed high heels. They add that bit of “wild factor”. My jewelry is slightly glam, my necklace is a statement necklace. My bangles are glam and boho to allow a smooth transition into an after five look. I didn’t show the dress underneath simply to focus on the daytime look but offering a benefit of the layering in this look could be a big help for those on vacation this summer.

I’m wearing stud gold earrings, shaped like diamonds. Again, offering day to night benefits. My hair is an easy breezy bun for that same reason.ย Anyhoo, let me know if you liked my look. Don’t forget to check out Chanda’s look!

Happy Friday loves! ๐Ÿ’‹

4 Things I’m Loving At This Momentย

Randomly, I feel this sort of “high” or feel a euphoria for life and the things I love. I know I’m not the only one. Why this happens is totally a myth to me but it’s at these points that I am able to truly identify things I am helplessly in love with. Stay with me here as I share the 5 things I simply can’t do without at this moment.

1. Simple & Inexpensive  Gifts

Social media can leave a strong lasting impression on our minds. Sometimes the effects can be draining when we think everyone else has so much more than we possess. The reality is that what we see is not always what people get. It’s very important to appreciate the priceless and simple things in life. Things like, laying under the sky at night to star gaze or growing herbs for a fresh taste in a home cooked meal. Yea, I know everyone doesn’t have access to a garden or maybe not even a yard but the point is to appreciate what costs little to nothing. My little darlings took part of their allowances and each bought me a rose. The pricelessness of the thought! When the roses died, the sentiment remained so I cut the stems down and placed them in a jar. Sometimes it’s just the simple things…

2. Early Mornings/Weekends

Ahhh!! The rejuvenating feeling of an early morning or a “lazy” weekend is unparalleled. I do some of my best blogging in the morning and during the weekend. I find the best weekends are ones where I kind of just fall in to plans or where I’m not focused on a rigid schedule. I like to visit spring festivals as well as farmer’s markets sniffing fresh cut flowers and walking through the morning air. Then there’s laying in my Florida room to get back to writing my book. What do you do on your weekends?

3. Eclectic Eateries

Hubby and I rarely get time to just be. I mean that in the sense of spending time together without the children. Date night is usually take out in our Florida room at night after the kids are out for the night. Being creative, we’ve been taking time hubby has free before the kiddies get out of school to have dates. These dates are so much fun and mean so much that I usually forget to take pictures. We’ve been experiencing some of the edgy, eclectic and fun spots in and around town. Recently I grabbed a burger from a spot called Vinsetta Garage. It’s actually an old mechanics garage turned restaurant!! How cool is that?! Love  the vintage vibes and design!! Check out my meal below…

4. Dewy/Glowy Skin, Lashes & Red Lips

Lately, my love for a red lip has grown tremendously. If you asked me 15 years ago about a red lip, I may have shrugged off the thought. But now, I want to softly makeup my face just to put on a red lip! More than red lips, I love dewy and glowing skin. I mean a real glow, not sparkling highlights. I simply am attracted to the supple skin that has a glow of moisturized tones. To add to That, who doesn’t love poppin lashes?!

Yup, I’ve talked my own self into going to head on over to Colourpop to grab more subtle highlights and more red lippie sticks lol. Stay tuned this week for style lusts! What small (or big) things are you loving at this moment?

It’s Not All Black & Whiteย

I’ve been (style) blogging for a little over a year now and I must say that I’ve experienced a lot of the unexpected. But then there are plenty everyday life situations that impact blogging more than you think. Before doing outfit of the day looks, I reviewed products I loved (and hated) as well as shared my thoughts on various other things. Because of that, my autoimmune disease never affected my ability to blog, at least not as much as it does now.

I’m a fighter and survivor because life just refused to allow me to give up. That being said, I’ve been suffering with Hashimoto’s disease. An autoimmune disease where my body attacks my thyroid. Recently, this has wreaked havoc on my body. I’ve been on a long weight loss journey where I HAVE to work harder than the average person to lose weight (fat) because my body has a propensity to keep the weight on. This means a rigorous fitness routine and eating healthy at least 90% of the time. Currently I’m suffering from a severe case of edema. You probably can see my swollen feet lol. Well I’m not complaining, I’m merely sharing why I’ve not been able to post as often as I would like which is daily. Blogging isn’t “black and white”. You can’t throw up a look and think that’s all there is to it. That’s a message to myself. I am very serious about this blogging thing so ill or not, on with the show! Can’t wait to share some looks this week and weeks to come!!! Stay tuned!!

A Pop of Gold

I apologize in advance for this post being so late and short. It’s Friday and I know you guys are ready to get out to enjoy your weekend like I certainly am. Don’t worry, next week I’m totally going to make up for it lol. So I wanted to be casual but still at the boast of a dress.

Originally, this dress was maxi length but true my stylist nature I believe in making pieces work for me. I love a good contrast so my cardigan is a maxi cardigan to contrast the shortness of my dress. Believe me, I can’t have two maxi pieces on at this point. I’ll explain why in a totally different post. Since we’re finally experiencing my cardigan is sheer and doesn’t add any warmth (temperature wise) but it warms up my look with the undertone. My shoes add glamorous features to my look. My choker is actually a headband that I got from Purple Love. Again, I did what I needed to turn this look into a “pop of gold”!

The Concept of Color Block

So with the back and forth of warm and cool weather, dressing and planning a look is like playing the guessing game. I like to keep a good coat in my wardrobe in case of style emergencies so I grabbed a trench I had to round out the concept of this look.

One of the hardest concepts to pull off successfully is color blocking. Why? Well, it’s definitely easy to pile on too many colors and to appear too matcha-matchy. The key to color blocking (for beginners) is building around a color that you want to “pop” or stand out with neutral colors. I would suggest grabbing a color that is your favorite bold color and allow that to take “center stage” while blocking with colors that are absolutely neutral. I say absolutely because nude is neutral however it has “tones” that can be hard to figure out which goes well with your own skin tone. Try starting with black, white, or another primary color. If you are unsure about color blocking, you can also contrast colors for ease of manipulation of color. If you have a question, please ask me! (smile)  I’ll explain more in my pictures….
