Black Friday

So I apologize for the false alarm upload earlier, it was certainly a faux pas on my part. This post, like most posts on Fridays will be a very short post so that you can get off the internet and get the weekend started…*wink*

I have been enjoying the fall season because I love to wear dark colors. (In the winter I love pinks, whites, nudes, etc., but I digress.) Dark colors tend to be very seductive and mysterious for some reason. I wanted to wear all black but was going to go against that thought initially because I will be wearing all black again Saturday under a different setting. Who says that you can’t wear a lot of black two days in a row? Since it is causal Friday, I thought my very own “Black Friday” would be perfect.

I’ve been itching to wear my spiked Litas by Jeffrey Campbell for a couple of years now and I am finally pulling them out to play!! I love these booties, they’re so comfy and stylish. My mother calls them “Herman the Monster” shoes lol but I still think they are a perfect statement piece for a hot look. Very simply put, I wanted to be in all black so grabbed a basic tank from H&M and my ashy black cuffed shorts from Forever 21 over some decorative tights. I put them both together with my cardigan from Naked Wardrobe and a statement necklace from Aliexpress. I threw on an oversized cashmere houndstooth scarf to balance the look so it didn’t appear to be a grunge fit (although I do love a grungy look). Let me know what you think!! I guess Black Friday is a great name for this look seeing as that I want to go shopping so bad and all the sales have already started lol. Anyhoo, I have a special post on Monday, so be sure to be back here and I will talk to you guys then!!

Shopping My Closet: Fur Boots

Since it has gotten increasingly colder these past couple of weeks, I have been grabbing for my boots. I have only purchased one new pair this year because honestly, I have my own shoe store lol. That being said, I recently pulled out my rabbit fur and leather boots, purchased from Bakers…you guessed it…years and years ago! These boots boast a pointy toe and a silver buckle detail on the shaft. The boots are calf height boots and are so warm and comfy. This was one of my first big wardrobe purchases as an adult. I can’t tell you how excited I was about these boots. To actually purchase “genuine leather” anything nowadays costs and arm and a leg, so these boots were truly an investment when I purchased them. They’ve held up quite nicely and at the time that I purchased them, they weren’t more than a hundred bucks!!

I love to shop my closet and I am finding myself leaning towards purchasing investment items for my wardrobe now more than ever. That is what finding your own style is all about. Now, lets get into the “deets” of this outfit. So, I chose another staple piece that I purchased years ago for this look and that’s my hat from Forever 21. I thought that this would be cute with some plain ole jeans and a cropped top that I wore underneath a thrifted sheer, sleeveless blouse that I instead utilized as a short cardigan. My jewelry is quite simple, arm candy is from Aldo and my necklace is from Neon Wild. I chose a lighter lavender lip to brighten up the look. My bag was handmade by Turquoise Soul Bags. They have great stuff and not just handbags!!

I hope you like my fit! Always shop your closet first before you hit the stores. When shopping, purchase statement pieces and essentials as well as investment pieces that continue to come back around in the fashion world…but only according to your own style of course. Don’t be afraid to use pieces for other than their intended purpose and remember to have fun with your style!! You can’t go wrong, style is your personality and your expressed opinion of fashion!! Until Friday…

Bye Cupcakes!!

Effortless Looks: Casual Friday

This week has been all about effortless looks. We all know we have moments in time where we want to look fabulous but lack the energy to put together a look because it seems like too much work. I’ve shared a couple ways to wear fashionable but complicated free outfits.

In my Aaliyah voice: “it’s Friday!!! Hey!! And I’m ready to hang.” Okay so since this is Friday and we’re all ready to enjoy the weekend, I’ll make this post a quick one. There’s nothing more effortless than a pair of jeans and a tee or tank. Literally you can throw both on and have an automatic outfit!! I decided on a tank to pair with my jeans by PZI. What’s a tank and jeans without a statement necklace? I grabbed the one I’m wearing from Purple Love and I LOVE this necklace!!! I popped on a cropped faux leather jacket I bought on clearance years ago (this was my first time wearing it). Lastly, my shoes are from Missguided and I love them so!! They soften my entire look and add a feminine touch. I opted for arm candy by Layered Chains, a dainty gold bracelet and a knotted gold bangle for some class. My glasses were a gift from a seller on eBay. As always, please share what you think…I enjoy conversation. Until tomorrow…

Bye Cupcakes!! 💋

Balmain Nation?

So today was the day. The internet crashed…well, maybe not the entire internet lol. If you were a potential customer for the H&M/Balmain collection, then you may have experienced somewhat of a crash. The site seemed to be going down, as I could see various angry posts on Instagram about some customers not being able to check out items in their cart, while some could not even get on the site at all! What a major disappointment for some! That alone made me proud of myself (not really but rather contentment) for the decision that I made.

What decision is that, you might ask. Well, I decided that I would not be a part of Balmain Nation and splurge on any of the items released for sale. Now don’t get me wrong, I do happen to love Balmain but time allows the mind to think and wander. In between the time the collection was introduced to the public and the time that it was actually released (today), I was guaranteed the time to think and really assess my “need” for this collection. Of course, I don’t really NEED anything except life’s essentials but if you are a stylenista like me, you get the point. I thought about how much I really wanted this collection and honestly as my excitement faded, so did my desire for anything in this collection. That brings me to my first point.

In my opinion, most people are paying for the hype of Balmain being at H&M. Yup, I said it. Just think, for those that are still excited about this collection, they are either in line or online waiting to make a purchase on some things that have been hyped up by various different media outlets. Heck, even I have touched on the collection upon first hearing about it. That being said, many are so amped about simply being able to make a purchase and to have a “high end designer” piece in their closet, that this has become their entire focus without even realizing it. The “I have to have this” and “this is limited edition” ideas can cause a frenzy of panicky would-be customers…simply for items of clothing & shoes.

As exclusive as this collection may sound, the reality is that it is not. Too many will have the same ultra-identifiable pieces. Let’s be honest, every single thing in this collection will be so easy to notice as a Balmain item that most of us will get sick of seeing them. As a matter of fact, that in itself will decrease the assumed “value” of the collection for some. Can you truly adhere to your own sense of “style” if everyone is parading around in the same shirt you have on?

Thinking in terms of value, I just cannot fathom the value of Balmain pieces being sold by H&M to the masses matching the great quality of Balmain’s runway/couture pieces. Obviously the quality would be a little less than because of the mass production, but would a shirt that has beading be worth the original price paid if seven months later a bead came off? Looking at the price point, I personally would be upset if I were in the that situation. What would be the resale value of these collection pieces? There is no doubt about the fact that most of these items will make their debut (if not already) on eBay for at least one and a half times the original price point. Some will be desperate enough to still purchase those things but some sellers will be stuck with merchandise they can’t move.

In the coming months, those that loved the pieces of Balmain/H&M but whose pockets could not come to grips with the price points will likely still have chance at the “look”. This is because there will more than likely be enough replicas of the most popular pieces (including shoes) made to go around. Again, if I were in a situation seeing the same item worn everywhere for way less, I’d be a tad bit agitated. As said once before, what becomes of the “value” of items in this collection if you can find a look-a-like anywhere? Now of course replicas don’t take value away from luxury items, but the exclusivity of the look itself is null and void unless the piece is a basic and timeless piece (i.e. Christian Louboutin So Kate). Yes you still will be wearing Balmain/H&M, but how long will that novelty last before the temptation to sell arises?

I saw video and pictures on social media outlets showing the chaotic run to racks to grab coveted pieces. That is another thing that turned me off of wanting to purchase. The sheer frustration of not even being able to get onto the H&M site was more than I was willing to bargain for. I pride myself (although liking particular trendy pieces) on maintaining my own individual style. I decided that while I can incorporate some of the pieces into my closet for my style, I don’t want to be wearing the EXACT same thing so many others are wearing with no chance of building a look because the pieces ARE the look.

I could go on and on with more reasons but this is a post, not a book lol. This post is not meant to put down the H&M/Balmain collection but to merely share a few reasons why I won’t be making a purchase from this collection. What are your thoughts? Did you happen to make a purchase ? If you didn’t want to purchase anything, was there any specific reason why? Please share your thoughts. As always, I welcome conversation. Until tomorrow…

Effortless Style: It's Gray Outside

So….I am honestly elated at the temperatures that southeast Michigan is having in November. It is in the 60s and 70s and there is no need for central air conditioning nor heat. I was for sure that wether would have betrayed us by now and gone back cold but nope, it still feels lovely outside. This post is definitely an upbeat one for me because as much as I wanted fall to get here, I am so excited that spring/early summer weather showed back up instead. Dressing for the fall can be tricky in Michigan if you are trying not to get sick as the weather can consist of snow one day and full on heat the next. Needless to say, I wanted an effortless look again to relax and just enjoy the weather with not a lot of complications in style.

I based this outfit off of a gray top and leggings I purchased from Target and decorated the look with accents and accessories. Gray is a neutral relaxing color that I have been leaning towards these days (along with pinks, nudes, navy, blacks and white). It allows for you to build a color scheme without clashing or creating too much contrast. I love leopard print so I just had to wear my leopard scarf to at least give the illusion of fall being upon us, lol. My shoes although nude add a subtle contrast that allows the gray to pop. I wore my fave clutch from American Apparel and my fave glasses from eBay. My denim shirt around my waist was a Walmart clearance special from years ago (not sure if Ive ever stated that) that I have worn numerous times before. I opted for thin, large gold hoop earrings and my new fave bracelet from Layered Chains. If you want to check them out, use the coupon code I listed in this post. {Thank you for checking out my other post}. Let me know what you think of my outfit after you check out the pics below and I will see you  back here Friday for something a little different that I did for the final effortless look!

Effortless Style Week: It's Fall But…

It has been some real fall weather happening here in Michigan. I’m not mad but the brief influx of warm weather to give us a break from cold, wind and long bouts of rain is quite lovely. I’m taking advantage and dressing for the warmer weather. I have Hashimoto’s disease so sometimes I’m extremely exhausted. Days of sleep wouldn’t seem to satisfy my need for endless rest. That being said, I wanted to style an outfit that would be comfortable and pretty much effortless.

I found everything in my closet, purchased either years or months before. One of the basics of any effortless outfit is a basic tee or tank. I opted for an easy mauve-nude color tank from H&M and a pair of wrap-up-the-legs leggings from Karmaloop (online). My cardigan was purchased from Meijer. My shoes are Steve Madden. Love the simplicity of them, matching the effortless theme of this look. All of jewelry with the exception of my choker is from Layered Chains. Check out my review and get a discount code while you’re at it. I hope you guys like this look, share what you think below. I promise I won’t take offense. (smile)

Until Wednesday,

Casual Friday- Girls Night Out

I am a thirty-something year old that has the opportunity to gather a decent wardrobe of pieces that I have recycled over the years or not even worn yet. Seriously?! Yes, seriously. I bought a thrifted Ralph Lauren sweater years ago and am just now wearing it. The sweater is way too big actually, I bought it when I was heavier with the intent of wearing as over sized. Needless to say, I will be purging this sweater right from my closet immediately. My next quest, finding an oversized sweater (and a pair of shorts) in my actual size.

I paired the sweater with some thrifted  Ralph Lauren shredded, deconstructed shorts (that I’ve had for years) and a pair of knee/thigh faux suede high boots. To “cool” the look of the sweater I added silver toned accessories. I popped on my leather jacket for warmth and it added a nice touch. I’m headed out for some fun and drinks!! Please share your thoughts below {let’s chat :-)} and I will see you back here Monday!!

Have a fun weekend cupcakes!!

"Vintaged" Thrift Run

I once was an extreme lover of thrifting and vintage. In fact, I loved vintage so much I owned an online vintage store. I thrifted so much that I found I had way too many items of clothing and accessories in my closet. It was time to start purging. Years of thrifting had taken a toll. I would shop for both my business as well as my personal wardrobe. No one person needs a ton of clothes. I’ve learned to purge and I love simplifying not just my wardrobe but my life! I am still purging things and as I do purge, I find things in my closet I’m inspired by.

I found this vintage dress, reminiscent of a secretary’s attire from the 1940s. From afar, the dress looks fuchsia but is actually a blue and red print. Since the dress has a “personality” of its own, I decided to simply accent the dress with one of my fave metals: gold. The gold pops perfectly against the dress and doesn’t complicate the outfit.

My shoes are nude heeled sandals from Forever 21. I chose them because not only do they not detract from the outfit, they add the same accent the belt does…the boldness of gold metal. The sandal design balances the look.  My jewelry is dainty but doesn’t go unnoticed in this outfit. Both my bracelet and gold (diamond) die-cut earrings are from Layered Chains. I LOVE both so much!! They add class to the look and just enough gold to not appear gaudy. For a finishing touch, I wore black framed glasses to bring some attention to my face since my makeup was so very neutral. Ironically enough, it added to the classic “secretary” look of the outfit.

I shot this look in the Goodwill while on a shopping run. Earlier I mentioned how I am in a stage of purging. So why would I be in the Goodwill shopping? {Insert scold here}. I was shopping for picture frames to decorate my beauty room. I found exactly what I needed and (beyond the pics) I was out of there!! Lol. Anyhoo, check out my look and let know if you like it!! I will eventually reveal my remodeled beauty room (nothing spectacular but I love it). Until Friday…

The "Purple Love" Experience

I had the pleasure of being invited to an event in Detroit that showcases Detroit’s own fabulous designers and business owners. The event, held at the Eastern Market, drew in folks from all over the metropolitan area to see what Detroit’s own had to offer. My invitation was extended by Brittany, owner and operator of Purple Love, a jewelry boutique.

The event displayed fancy, classic, as well as boho statement pieces. I was very impressed with not only the jewelry but the business as a whole. The owner is very sweet and fashionable herself. (I loved her boots btw, I have a similar pair lol).  The event offered mimosas, and other beverages among an array of yummy treats. There were gift bags for everyone invited that was in attendance filled with goodies. I thought the event ended at a later time (and arrived at the very end) but the owner was more than willing to still show me around and share what Purple Love had to offer. I got a few pieces after I tried on and fell in love with them. The pieces definitely catch the eye and are true statement pieces. Most necklaces come with earrings to match. If you like, check out Purple Love on Instagram and support Detroit! She included a 15% off coupon for all of my followers to get a discount to shop for great, stylish pieces. I’ve included the coupon code and pictures below! Until tomorrow…
