How To Style: Casual Menswear 2021

As a child, my mother dressed me in plenty masculine clothes. Did I love it? Absolutely not! Ugh! I hated those baggy, brown plaid, squarely designed and patterned clothing. It was not me and I spent time trying to wear as many clingy pieces that I could when I got old enough.

As an adult, I somehow always find the appeal in menswear. I style my husband and son quite often because I love the intricacies of suits and accessories, matching and contrasting colors, plaids and stripes. Once when my son had school pictures, I dressed him in a hoodie and jeans. I couldn’t be “normal” though so I had to add a blazer on the outside and a button up shirt underneath the hoodie. He felt so cool and I think I almost loved the outfit more than he did!

I was a bit inspired this time around to wear something inspired by what my son wears these days. He’s almost a teen which I can’t believe but I enjoy watching him put things together. It gives me inspiration to get put together on days where I feel like being frumpy. Since I still feel frumpy most days, I wanted to put an outfit together that not only reflects that but something of a outfit that I can go out for drinks in and still feel cozy. Maybe it’s just me, quarantine can really damper the desire to get all dressed up!

I grabbed what I had in my closet but with tags still on and created the look I was going for: casual menswear. One of the most comfortable things I wear are my husbands shirts and joggers. This time I wore my clothes even though I felt like I was wearing his…but in style!

Hat: Pretty Little Thing.

Boots: SOLD OUT.

Shirt: Calvin Klein.

Joggers (Green SOLD OUT): J Lux Label.

Blazer: Boohoo.

"Vintaged" Thrift Run

I once was an extreme lover of thrifting and vintage. In fact, I loved vintage so much I owned an online vintage store. I thrifted so much that I found I had way too many items of clothing and accessories in my closet. It was time to start purging. Years of thrifting had taken a toll. I would shop for both my business as well as my personal wardrobe. No one person needs a ton of clothes. I’ve learned to purge and I love simplifying not just my wardrobe but my life! I am still purging things and as I do purge, I find things in my closet I’m inspired by.

I found this vintage dress, reminiscent of a secretary’s attire from the 1940s. From afar, the dress looks fuchsia but is actually a blue and red print. Since the dress has a “personality” of its own, I decided to simply accent the dress with one of my fave metals: gold. The gold pops perfectly against the dress and doesn’t complicate the outfit.

My shoes are nude heeled sandals from Forever 21. I chose them because not only do they not detract from the outfit, they add the same accent the belt does…the boldness of gold metal. The sandal design balances the look.  My jewelry is dainty but doesn’t go unnoticed in this outfit. Both my bracelet and gold (diamond) die-cut earrings are from Layered Chains. I LOVE both so much!! They add class to the look and just enough gold to not appear gaudy. For a finishing touch, I wore black framed glasses to bring some attention to my face since my makeup was so very neutral. Ironically enough, it added to the classic “secretary” look of the outfit.

I shot this look in the Goodwill while on a shopping run. Earlier I mentioned how I am in a stage of purging. So why would I be in the Goodwill shopping? {Insert scold here}. I was shopping for picture frames to decorate my beauty room. I found exactly what I needed and (beyond the pics) I was out of there!! Lol. Anyhoo, check out my look and let know if you like it!! I will eventually reveal my remodeled beauty room (nothing spectacular but I love it). Until Friday…

Bye Cupcakes!!
