Fall In Love

I’ve been lighting my candles and watching classic movies, my favorite to watch. Im the mood for fall has me cranking out my fall “rituals” a bit earlier. Normally, I get this feeling in probably October but I’m just ready for cider mills, more cloudy days, rainy days and movie nights. I know what you’re saying, I can watch movies anytime and cloudy days are not that great! Well, I’m a weirdo so I enjoy things that most people don’t. I accept that because I wouldn’t have it any other way! Anyhoo as you know, I’ve been faithfully shopping my closet for the past few outfits and I’m continuing to do so with this look. You know what? I’m falling in love with this process.

Shopping your own closet allows you to fall back in love with the things you have. You begin to find pieces that maybe you forgot you had. I’m also realizing the things that I thought I wanted to purge but would rather keep and am purging other things. I had set this denim romper I’m wearing in a bin to get rid of it. I went through that bin realizing I didn’t want to rid myself of it yet. It’s perfect for those warm summer days that are on the cusp of the new season of fall. I wanted to reflect the nature type feeling that comes with fall so I tied a flannel plaid shirt around my waist and and threw on some feather heels which are extremely comforable. I didn’t opt for much jewelry as the emphasis is on my love for nature and the fall season. I do plan to do some shopping for the fall but I’ll be sharing my wish list for my wardrobe tomorrow so stayed tuned!

(How To) Midweek Casual + Slight Glam

When the kiddies are out of school, I am always planning ways to enjoy adulthood outside of being a mom. No school means no endless amounts of homework so I can get out after five during the week. Let me tell you, I certainly advise having a life lol. Anyhoo, going to grab drinks with the girls is always a good idea. No one wants to go out in full dressed gear on a weekday after a full day of juvenile activities and work. Well, some people want to still be a bit casual but have that after five appeal.

Lately, (because I think my style is again evolving) I’ve been less into boho and more into a polished, glam and classic look. It was a cooler day so I grabbed a white pair of jeans and paired it with a simple nude tank. Now, the colors are pretty muted but are a nice base to add some glam. So here’s the tip: the quickest way to glam up any look is to add black, sequins, or heels. All of these things are quite inexpensive. Always have a staple pair of simple heels that can be paired with any skirt, pants, shirts or dress. I chose my black feather heeled sandals and a sequin clutch bag for that easy and quick touch of glitz. This look is easy peezy, simple and quick. I’ll be doing more of these looks and morphing again style wise lol.

Mixed Prints, Colors & Moods

Warning: short post…

One fashion trend that seems to never go out of style is mixing prints, patterns and colors. We see mixing all the time. Actually, not only are prints often mixed but so are fabrics.

I bought a micro-pleated skirt from Etsy a few months back and it’s a silk skirt that is bold with undefined color. It pretty much projects a rainbow of pinks, purples and other colors that of a reddish hue. There are turquoise and yellow that pop against the pinks. I LOVE multi colored prints that offer versatility in styling.

I grabbed my taupe and black striped bodysuit to pair with my multi-colored skirt. The black and taupe acts as a base against the color. My bodysuit is a bit off the shoulder and I just wore it with one shoulder out for a bit of sass. My heels are gladiator style to balance the look as well as the color and my handbag solidifies the look with a modern, sophisticated touch. I didn’t want the look to project as vintage so the bag detracts from that style. I have minimal accessories so as to not overwhelm the outfit with too many details. Check out the pics!

Friday Comfort: (Style How To)

Sometimes we have a lot going on in life and we just need a breather. Knowing that, we are drawn to more comfortable clothes to be in more of a relaxed state during stressful periods. Even beyond stress, in warmer weather it might be essential to chase comfort over strict style. But who says you can’t be stylish AND comfortable?

One thing that is comfortable is a dress. Now of course most people don’t think of a dress being comfortable. The idea of dress sort of links with dressing up. Not so much. If you have a flowy, rather loose fitting or a fit n flare style, it can be pulled off. Maxi dresses can also be cozy. The idea is to wear the dress that doesn’t need constant readjustments and allows you to move freely without restrictions. I opted for a fit n flare dress since I’m a bit bottom heavy. This type of dress doesn’t restrict my body nor show too much if you know what I mean. I feel the comfort of the dress around my waist so I’m not bothered by friction from the fabric.

When you’re looking for a good fit n flare dress, I suggest looking for one with seams that accentuate your shape or give the illusion of. My shoes are skin tone bit are comfy, although they are heels. I have a pair of flats with the same design if chose to get even more comfy. I added a different toned orange with my clutch to grab the essence of warmth and relaxation. Anyhoo, it’s Friday and I gotta get outta here but check out my pics and let me know what you think!

Happy Friday!!! 💋

The Concept of Color Block

So with the back and forth of warm and cool weather, dressing and planning a look is like playing the guessing game. I like to keep a good coat in my wardrobe in case of style emergencies so I grabbed a trench I had to round out the concept of this look.

One of the hardest concepts to pull off successfully is color blocking. Why? Well, it’s definitely easy to pile on too many colors and to appear too matcha-matchy. The key to color blocking (for beginners) is building around a color that you want to “pop” or stand out with neutral colors. I would suggest grabbing a color that is your favorite bold color and allow that to take “center stage” while blocking with colors that are absolutely neutral. I say absolutely because nude is neutral however it has “tones” that can be hard to figure out which goes well with your own skin tone. Try starting with black, white, or another primary color. If you are unsure about color blocking, you can also contrast colors for ease of manipulation of color. If you have a question, please ask me! (smile)  I’ll explain more in my pictures….

Winter Blues & Plaids

So I think the past few months I have talked about winter so much we’re all tired of winter right? Lol. Well, I’m officially sick (no literally) of winter. Currently, I have an ear ache, sinus infection and a cold but I’m pushing through it. The light at the end of the tunnel is SPRING!!! In the meantime, I’ve become slightly uninspired due to not just the weather and the lingering on of winter but the current state of my health. This swinging weather of 60 degrees one day and 18 degrees with snow the next is very hard to plan by. Guys, I have so many looks lined up for warmer weather, I’m quite uninterested in dressing up to be cold. Regardless, tis life and I must dress for it.

I decided on this bold and colorful plaid poncho to be the “center” of my look. In true stylist fashion, I “thinga-ma-jigged”  my poncho into a scarf instead. It’s still a poncho but it is much more cozy and beneficial as a scarf. My coat is of a faux wool/felt material. It honestly is a decently warm coat. It boasts an extra large collar that pretty much envelopes my upper half. I’m wearing fleece leggings. They are sooooo cozy and warm!!! My boots, you all have seen a number of times. They’re from Justfab’s Luxe line (now no longer) but there are similar styles on the market. Mine are genuine suede which I love. Since this look is cozy, I have a large handbag I purchased from H&M to store everything I need while out and about to make me comfortable in this cold. I opted for sunglasses because of the brightness of the snow. My accessories are minimal. Let me know what you think! How do you stay inspired in the long months of winter and when it’s cold?

Anti-Prep

Disclaimer: I apologize for the extremely late post.

I finally look my height (5′ 4″), and I must say that I’m excited lol. I just had to throw that in there. Okay, so business as usual. My look. I wanted to wear a sweater/button up blouse look but the problem with that is you end up looking preppy whether you want to or not. That is definitely not the look I am going for. That being said, I opted for sleeveless sheer blouse with a collar instead of the predictable non-sheer white solid. To further step away from the traditional prep look, I grabbed a bomb statement necklace I purchased from Purple Love. This necklace packs a “pow” factor that counters the normal dainty necklace or scarf that would be worn with the prep look. Quite rebellious huh? Lol. That’s the exact point.

Style is all about tweaking looks that aren’t “you” to make them just the way want to express your personality perfectly. That’s what makes styling fun. I threw on a hat on my messy pony for flirty but youthfully stern look. My boots are combat-like booties, high in heel, they give me a longer, leaner silhouette (even though I am getting thinner) and anyone can get that effect. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed!

Now that you’ve seen what I’m wearing, let me know what you’re wearing or were wearing this Friday night!

A “Modern” Update

A little while ago I was taking advantage of the warmer weather we had. I seriously have started looking for spring clothes and shoes because I am over boots and coats already. Yea, it’s that serious lol.

I love this shirt that I am wearing in this post because it is so simple and is actually warm enough to wear in the winter. You’ve seen this shirt in a post earlier this year and I wanted to wear it again so I decided to add it to another outfit of the day but kind of updating the look to coincide with my current sense of style. The look is pretty simple but I love that it rock & roll, girly, flirty, and classic all rolled into one. I wore one of my favorite pair of open toe booties by Zara and layered the look for a fun spin on the shirt. The look is fresh and clean. You can try this look with a totally different graphic tee and closed toe boots and a different jacket for your own spin on this outfit!

I know this weekend is a long one so I won’t keep you, I’m headed out myself for some fun. I will catch you all back here Monday for another outfit look!!

Impromptu Post…

I’ve had a lot of inspiration lately. Any and everything inspires me. Life has run a muck sort-to-speak in my world. I’ve been swamped and haven’t had the chance to post so quite frankly, this is an impromptu post. I wasn’t going to post this until tomorrow but since I’ve been too swamped to post in a while, I thought posting today is only fair. There will still be another post tomorrow as well, all posts will get moved up. I wish I had more to say this time but honestly I’m exhausted. I have a few reviews posting this week and three more outfit posts this week. Things in life are not back to normal and they never will be but I learned a lot this year. I’ve formed closer bonds with loving friends, closed chapters and been forced to become stronger than I thought I ever could be. This post is a bit more emotional than normal but I will back to my style explaining self tomorrow.

I love the darkness in this look. It offers so much depth and mystery but is till feminine. It’s a bit cool but my adrenaline allowed for me to wear this sheer  trench coat style cardigan over my outfit. I’m sporting a crop top from Forever 21. This is weird fitting top. I’m hoping to find this color in a turtleneck shirt. Anyhoo, my shorts are black and white plaid, vintage and thrifted. I love the contrast against my crop top. Now I know you must be thinking, “why didn’t she show skin” but I have two good reasons. One, I wanted a layered look. Two, I was just not loving the look of this fit without something underneath. Regardless, I think that the look came together. What do you think? Check the blog for another outfit post tomorrow….

That Gray Area…

Lately, I’ve been drawn to certain colors naturally. I end up picking up wardrobe pieces that are the same color. Ugh, the dilemma right? Well, I am happy about this particular outfit because I picked up a few pieces in my color of the moment, gray. I picked these pieces up all at different times but all the pieces compliment one another for a calm and cozy look. I felt so relaxed in this look. I bought this turtleneck poncho a little more than a month ago. It kept me warm and kept me from needing outerwear. My only gripe is that it get wrinkled very easily and by the time I get to my destination, it never looks like it was ironed at all.

There’s always that gray area of times when you may not need outerwear. When wearing capes, things get tricky. Not every cape is a good fit for outerwear. If the cape is too thin and you live in a colder area, you may not want to wear a cape without a coat. The idea of a coat over a cape sounds crazy but it’s worse to be freezing, that’s not cute! It was about 50 degrees when I wore my cape so I didn’t need to wear anything else. Of course, I did wear a tank under my cape for good measure but I was comfortable. You have to decide if weather permits a cape alone along with making sure the fabric fits the weather as well as the style fitting the occasion. I could have worn this cape as outerwear but it isn’t warm enough for less than 50 degrees in my opinion. In colder weather, you’d want something warmer.

I paired this cape with some high waisted jeans and a tank from H&M. My boots are old and fur cuffed. I honestly don’t remember where I purchased them because it’s been longer than a decade that I’ve purchased them. My earrings are simple but make a delicate fashion statement. I chose a large statement necklace that is quite glamorous to fancy up the look. The gold stands out against the gray. I grabbed one of my fave handbags from Justfab and again the tan color contrasts the outfit but also warms up the look. Let me know what you think of this look. I will be back here on Wednesday of course for another outfit post.
