Plaid and All That Glitters…

I am a fall fanatic. I think I’ve put that out there so it’s no shock that I’m excited to wear fall gear! I have to admit, when your mind is on one season, transition can be hard even if you have this styling grainy down pact. I’m the first to admit that I love to shop but since I’ve been lately shopping my closet, when I do make a purchase the piece MUST either be one of a kind, thrifted or on clearance.

I recently found this top I’m wearing and when I saw it I knew it was THE transition piece that I wanted to style for fall. I had seen this way top earlier in the year and fell in love but refused to pay the high price point for it. Actually I’d seen it on multiple sites and I prayed (not literally) that this top went on sale lol. So later on in the year about a few weeks ago, I checked a particular site on a hunch. Guess what?!! JACKPOT!!! I struck gold! This sucker was on sale!!! So I guess I sort of kinda believe that good things come to the patient. Well, I’m a go-getter so it has to apply to the situation lol.

Anyhoo, this top is by BlankNyc and I got it from Saks Fifth Avenue for 30% off the $18 price! That’s the price that I see of some high end brand thrifted items! Dont be afraid to shop high end department stores. You simply must know how to shop, knowing off hand what you’re looking for. I put this shirt together with a pair of semi-destroyed jeans and a simple pair of sandals. Let me know what you think and if you’ve scored any sales lately!

Bootlegged…

This fall, it will be a bit more dating with my style. I know I’ve been more casual with the way that I dress instead of being polished. A while back I’ve talked about being more polished with my outfits but I just hadn’t kept my promise to myself. Now, I’m finding that I’m becoming naturally drawn to buying pieces that add that polished flair to my looks.

This post is my formal introduction to fall 2016! I’m loving wide leg jeans, pants and capris but in particular I’m becoming obsessed with bootleg style (and wide leg) jeans. Justfab was having a ridiculous sale and I ran to the site to see what denim they had. I heard that their clothing is of pretty good quality so I was itching to try the jeans. To my surprise, these jeans I’m wearing were on the site for more than half off! They only had a size 28 left that I wasn’t sure if I could fit (seeing that I’m rump heavy) but I took the chance. I’m so happy that I grabbed these jeans! They for like a dream. They’re mid-rise and a dark rinse for a polished look.

To finish the look, I paired my jeans with a simple black tied top. There is some cut out detailing in this top that makes the looks a bit sassy. I wasn’t in the mood for jewelry so I just added a large light taupe handbag and red wedge sandals. This is the perfect outfit for a night out on a semi-fall day! Lol. How will your style change for this fall?

Positive Vibes Only!ย

So let’s have some girl talk (guys you’re welcome too, we’re all affected by what I’ll be discussing).

I was thinking about when I read a Zig Ziglar book back in the day. Zig Ziglar was all about positivity. He promoted it. Negativity sometimes smacks us in the face. We try to dodge it, we refuse to address it but in order to have vision we gotta get it out of our face. Yea, sometimes negativity can blind us from seeing our own potential. The fact that we can’t see our own potential can keep us from even working towards goals. You have to (figuratively) beat it into your own head that you CAN AND WILL! If you don’t believe in you, who will?

What about when the “peanut gallery is negative? People say that if you don’t have “haters” you’re not doing good. But is it really a good idea to have “haters” and to give that disguised negativity the time of day? We’ll ask yourself what good it does. Negativity is not motivation it’s spewed to stifle progress. Instead of paying the hate any kind, continue to push forward and make you better. It’s hard not to respond to the negative but start responding to the positive instead. Receive compliments and encouragement. Build new partnerships and relationships and enjoy the space you’re in. Remember success is nothing without someone to share it with! So maybe the saying should be if you don’t have love, you’re not poppin! Remember love starts with “self” so if you don’t have self-love….

So this entire post was inspired by a shirt that I recieved from @coolasdetroitstuff on Instagram. You’ll see the tee in the following pics but rally quick let me say, the quality is excellent and and the message is positive! It says “you hate, I slay”. It proclaims not getting involved in negativity even if it’s directed towards the person wearing the tee! I’m wearing a medium and the shirt is pretty true to size. As a blogger, the words are a perfect fit!

The Design of Comfortย

With the weather change comes what seems like awkward choices in wardrobe. The change of seasons is a transition period for most wardrobes. Trying to figure out what pieces in your closet to keep and what to fold I and put away might be tricky. Beyond the season change comes changes in emotion. Perhaps during fall we tend to feel more cozy, often choosing comfort over style. You can have both style and complete comfort in one look.

I found this very comfortable and stylish striped blouse while thrifting by Calvin Klein. The material is so exquisite against my skin. No snags on my skin and it flows beautifully on my silhouette. Perfect for those comfy outfits. The style of stripes and button detail add for a contemporary look. I paired the blouse with a pair of high waisted jeans. I didn’t want low rise jeans and feel uncomfortable, maybe at some point having to tug on my jeans. I added my favorite pair of flat sandals and new fave fall handbag for a finishing and transitional touch!

The key to transitioning smoothly from one season to another is to find those pieces that can be worn in warm and cold weather. That’s what the Calvin Klein blouse does for my look. It helps to accomplish a cool transitional outfit. Your “in between seasons” piece can be anything from a dress to a scarf. Yes, a scarf. There are even versatile accessories. For example, a burgundy scarf made of light knits and fabrics can help build a great between season look! Anyhoo, let me know what you think of my look! What are some of your favorite transitional pieces?

Fall 2016 Fashion Forecast #1

I’ve waited for this season all year! Lol. Trust me I LOVE summer and spring to but as one social media meme put it, “September is the January of the fashion world”. Now begin nuances of trends and ways to style these trends. I’m going to share with you some things that I’m positive will be trends and to-be trends that I am currently smitten with.

  1. Velvet: For some of you that remember George Constanza on Seinfeld, you remember his famous words “if it was socially acceptable I’d drape myself in velvet”. Lol while I don’t necessarily want to drape myself in velvet, I am simply in love with the fabric. I’ve already worn the fabric in the form of open toe heels recently and I can’t wait to wear more. Velvet is the fabric that always adds a bit of sensuality and elegance (almost an oxymoron) to any look. You got to get velvet in your wardrobe, I’ll definitely be incorporating it into mine this fall!

  2. Burnt orange and burgundy colors: it seems as if these colors are no brainers in a fall wardrobe. On the contrary, most times people shy away from burnt orange as it is an intense color. They also neglect to wear burgundy because of its red nature. Many end up choosing to wear more neutral colors or gray, black and navy blue. Don’t be afraid to wear a burgundy pair of boots or burnt orange leather jacket. It may seem as if you can’t wear such bold colors as a foundation for an outfit but in actuality, your look will have a bold and eye catching style!

  3. Fringe Heels: okay so, fringe heels are not necessarily new on the fashion horizon but I do feel that this trend was slipping away. Now it seems that this trend is making a major comeback! I recently grabbed a pair made popular last year by Steve Madden and wore it in my most recent ootd. Fringe detailing in boots is also going to be popular. Grab a fringed pair of heels and join the fun!

  4. Floral Prints: maybe I’m the only one obsessing over floral prints this fall but florals are not just for spring and summer. Grab a floral print with a black or navy background or with fall colored flowers and prints. Personally, I love marigolds (as a child I thought they were ugly), sunflowers and mum

The Bath Robe

It’s Friday y’all!! This was a short work week but it felt extremely long. Like I can’t tell you how happy I am about this weekend. Weekends are never weekends because I’m always working. I needed some comfort because it’s that uncomfortable time of the month (insert eye roll emoji) and I’m honestly not in the mood to wear anything more than a robe lol.

Today my look is inspired completely by that feeling. Yea well, I still dressed but when I get home I’m throwing a robe on for real! I found this thrifted robe online and fell all the way in love. The print fits right into a smooth summer/fall transition and the colors pop! I’m wearing this robe as a long cardigan because with style, you can do those things. Make things fit and work for your wardrobe. Now I won’t get on here and preach today cause it’s Friday but always remember to be brave enough to experiment. Grab pieces you love and repurpose them so they work to add that perfect bit of “pow” to your outfit! Take a peek at my pics and let me know what you think! Then go on a thrifting mission to find a bomb robe to wear as a cardigan lol. Happy Friday!

Old Fit (n Flare)

We all have that favorite wardrobe piece in our closet that no matter what we refuse to let go of. That piece for me would be my favorite dress, a red fit and flare dress that I’ve had for literally over ten years! This dress is an old faithful that has fit me during weight ups and downs as well as style adjustments.

I hadn’t worn it in quite a long time so I decided it was time to wear and revamp the usual style in which I wear it. I had often paired this dress with simply a pair of black patent shoes. For my belt, black patent. I’m changing it up this time and doing something different with this dress. I’ve worn it a million times but styling a piece different makes it seem brand new all over again. Since I’ve been shopping my closet, my belt and shoes are items I’ve had for years or have worn in another outfit of the day.

The colors I decided to pie with the red are safari green and a sort of bronze. These colors shift the dress over to having a casual flair instead of more dressy like when I wear the black accessories. Side note, this dress is prof that you don’t have to spend a ton of money for quality. I got this dress from Forever 21. I initially purchased it solely because the fit and flare design (perfect for my shape) and the feminine detailing. Anyhoo, share what you think! What is your favorite wardrobe piece and what’s your favorite way to style it?

{All items I’m wearing are thrifted or old.}

Weekend White Out

HAPPY FRIDAY!

HAPPY SEPTEMBER!!

I’m just excited about everything over here! I had a rough patch as you know but I get to unwind and relax a bit this weekend. It’s a three day weekend before the kiddos go back to school and the homework drives me nuts lol. Since it’s Friday, let me me brief with my outfit deets. So we all know there’s an unwritten fashion rule about not wearing white after labor day. Well, call the fashion police because I intend to wear white this fall and winter!

That being said, the perfect look for me today was all already in my closet. A white tank and skirt you’ve all seen numerous times and a pair of fringe heels. (Fringe is so “in” this fall so do yourself a favor and grab some fringe heels now!) This is how I’m starting off September…very anti huh? Lol. Anyhoo, let’s go enjoy this long weekend!

Painting the Peacock…

Yep! I’m in an ever changing style mood and I’m into color and bold colors at that! Maybe it’s the potential of the upcoming season but regardless I’m finding myself drawn to color. So you guys know I’ve been shopping my closet but I snuck in a recent trip to the thrift store. I know, I said I wouldn’t shop but I was coerced by my hubby lol. Yep, I blaming him for supporting my love of thrifting.

Anyhoo, while thrifting I saw this wrap dress with a gorgeous bold print of peacock feathers. For most, this dress may remind them of spring but the colors make this dress versatile for year round. This dress is absolutely a fabulous cut and is a true wrap so it grabs the figure perfectly without the ruching that most faux wrap dresses need.

So before I started my “no-buy” I made a purchase for the shoes I’m wearing. A pair of velvet fuchsia colored heels that are gorgeous with the buckle detailing and round toe. Surprisingly, these shoes are quite comfy, even for a girl with joint discomforts like me. I am not wearing much accessories, just my fave black leather clutch and a bangle I got at an African festival one year. Yea so basically I painted the peacock by adding more color to my already colorful wardrobe with this dress! What was your last splurge? Let’s chat!

Living for the Weekend!ย

This week has been a trying week with me working to get my business back on track and even better than before. I’ve cried real tears because I am a fully hands on person. I built my own blog site and I am now re-building my vintage/thrifting boutique. I love the word boutique because thrifting and vintage are a specialized and unique sector of fashion. I regret that I have been so encompassed with growth, I haven’t stopped to enjoy the process.

I miss being able to blog as regular as I used to at 3 times per week (at least) but I’m slowly but surely making my way back. I feel truly refreshed! The kiddos are on their way back to school, leaving me a bit more time to focus during my normal work hours. And drink my carb-free coffee lol without interruption lol. I’ve got plans this weekend to just enjoy myself after this trying week. I’m looking forward to the comradery between my sisters and I besides just enjoying the moment. It feels like I’ve been living for this “freedom” this whole week!

I wanted my look to reflect my sheer happiness that I can relax and unwind. Good wholesome fun and carefree feelings led my inspiration. I simply paired my white high waist jeans and a peach crop tank. Adding a few pops of color are my shoes and my belt. I didn’t want to look juvenile so I opted for an old large cognac handbag I purchased years ago from Justfab. Y’all know how I do on Fridays, I like to make my posts short so you can get out and enjoy today so let me know what you think!! I’m getting out of here and will be back Monday for sure!

I have a little series is like to do. I’ll give you more info in a couple of weeks, in the meantime…
