Living for the Weekend!

This week has been a trying week with me working to get my business back on track and even better than before. I’ve cried real tears because I am a fully hands on person. I built my own blog site and I am now re-building my vintage/thrifting boutique. I love the word boutique because thrifting and vintage are a specialized and unique sector of fashion. I regret that I have been so encompassed with growth, I haven’t stopped to enjoy the process.

I miss being able to blog as regular as I used to at 3 times per week (at least) but I’m slowly but surely making my way back. I feel truly refreshed! The kiddos are on their way back to school, leaving me a bit more time to focus during my normal work hours. And drink my carb-free coffee lol without interruption lol. I’ve got plans this weekend to just enjoy myself after this trying week. I’m looking forward to the comradery between my sisters and I besides just enjoying the moment. It feels like I’ve been living for this “freedom” this whole week!

I wanted my look to reflect my sheer happiness that I can relax and unwind. Good wholesome fun and carefree feelings led my inspiration. I simply paired my white high waist jeans and a peach crop tank. Adding a few pops of color are my shoes and my belt. I didn’t want to look juvenile so I opted for an old large cognac handbag I purchased years ago from Justfab. Y’all know how I do on Fridays, I like to make my posts short so you can get out and enjoy today so let me know what you think!! I’m getting out of here and will be back Monday for sure!

I have a little series is like to do. I’ll give you more info in a couple of weeks, in the meantime…

“WordPressed”

Ugh! Life! Well, lately I’ve been uninspired and not feeling too well. Needless to say, I’ve still been pressing on. I have a few things I want to get into motion on this blog and website so I’ve got to get my gusto back. Fall is literally about 30 days away and I’ve been shopping for it! Well, just this past weekend. Yep, I came off my no-buy for this weekend of thrifting. I will share that haul really soon along with some great tips I’ve learned from my own thrifting experiences.

I’m the meantime, I’ve been stumped it seems. My lack of inspiration comes from my weight forcing it self up and/or to stay  in an unchanged status. My frustration have leaked into my creative mind to blog. I’m working on changing my brain and pushing myself to move forward. Right now I feel “WordPressed”, or depressed when it comes to blogging sort to speak. Since fall is coming, I’m inspired by the change in wardrobe but it’s still pretty warm to truly experiment. Anyhoo, while I get myself together let me know what you think of this outfit!

Clouds Roll In…

I’ve always prided myself on being a cheerleader for others and a source of encouragement. I am never the person that wants to put another person down. I view it as unhealthy and adds no value to who I am as a person.

I had a “friend” that didn’t mind tearing others down. Since “bad associations spoil useful habits” I fell into a brief trap of being critical. I regret that because that’s not me…at all! That negativity dragged me down. I’m human and I can admit my wrongs. I’m an encourager by nature and I intend to continue that way. Negativity is like (figurative) clouds. I love real clouds and I love cloudy days. But figuratively speaking, clouds block shine and cast shadows and shade. It’s depressing and an intemperate state of mind. No good for anyone.

I used to want to be a nurse. They are extremely critical to the care of a patient.  Nurses used to wear caps. The caps symbolized their being “highly capable“. I’m wearing a cap in this outfit to symbolize my contribution to the mental health of others as well as myself. Being positive does more than we think. I’m highly capable of being a person of influence but what I choose to do with that influence is truly important. My goal is to continue my quest to always be positive, encouraging and heartening. Negative vibes is and never will be me!

Anyhoo, my outfit is basic, the focus being on my message. Although I will say these shorts make me look bigger than I am. They’re a size 29! Welp, let me know what you think anyway and if you have any other thoughts, let’s chat!

*All clothing are from closet finds (old).

Fall In Love

I’ve been lighting my candles and watching classic movies, my favorite to watch. Im the mood for fall has me cranking out my fall “rituals” a bit earlier. Normally, I get this feeling in probably October but I’m just ready for cider mills, more cloudy days, rainy days and movie nights. I know what you’re saying, I can watch movies anytime and cloudy days are not that great! Well, I’m a weirdo so I enjoy things that most people don’t. I accept that because I wouldn’t have it any other way! Anyhoo as you know, I’ve been faithfully shopping my closet for the past few outfits and I’m continuing to do so with this look. You know what? I’m falling in love with this process.

Shopping your own closet allows you to fall back in love with the things you have. You begin to find pieces that maybe you forgot you had. I’m also realizing the things that I thought I wanted to purge but would rather keep and am purging other things. I had set this denim romper I’m wearing in a bin to get rid of it. I went through that bin realizing I didn’t want to rid myself of it yet. It’s perfect for those warm summer days that are on the cusp of the new season of fall. I wanted to reflect the nature type feeling that comes with fall so I tied a flannel plaid shirt around my waist and and threw on some feather heels which are extremely comforable. I didn’t opt for much jewelry as the emphasis is on my love for nature and the fall season. I do plan to do some shopping for the fall but I’ll be sharing my wish list for my wardrobe tomorrow so stayed tuned!

Fast Fashion, Hot Stuff!

Digging in my closet, I’ve been finding clothes that I’ve purchased over the past year that I haven’t worn. Most of the clothes are what the fashion world calls “fast fashion”. Fast fashion are clothing pieces that are made to be worn for only a moment in time and not meant to last for years. Various online retailers are known for selling clothes of the sort. Back in the day, stores like Dots, Rainbow Fashions were all known for fast fashion. You can find clothes like these at other places now too but I found mine in my closet lol.

It’s quite hot out and I’m not in a mood to be uncomfortable in any way so I grabbed this midi pencil skirt and a simple tank. I layered a polka dot cropped blouse over my shoulders to prep up the outfit. I’ve seen looks with a skirt and tank all over IG however, these looks are meant to mimic the Kardashians and that is definitely not my intention with this outfit. Adding the blouse detail around my shoulders gives the look definition.

My shoes are strappy wedge sandals which are extremely comfortable. This was a bad hair day so I slipped on my gray  hat which actually coordinates well with my semi prep look. I wasn’t really feeling a handbag since I had been reading, this shoppers bag from the Detroit District works perfectly!

Classic Closet Reruns

As creatures of progression, we always have some kind of goals to accomplish or work towards. I currently have a new set of goals that I’ve set and as a part of accomplishing those goals I have to cut down my spending tremendously. I have almost no credit card debt but I’ve spent money this past year on my wardrobe and I think it’s enough for now. I’m focusing on saving more and spending less. Don’t get me wrong I saved and most things in my closet I had for years but I’ve been shopping! So I’ll be shopping my closet for the next few months. Get ready for closet reruns.

The outfit (except for my shirt, it was two for ten dollars) I’m currently wearing is pretty much all from my closet and has been worn at least once for you all to see. Well, all of the pieces I’m wearing haven’t been worn together but that’s the beauty of a closet shake up!

So really quickly, I paired my striped skirt from Asos with an obvious and popular coordinate color of red. I added a thrifted denim Levi’s button up around the waist for a bit of a casual look. The skirt accentuates my curves (almost too much lol). The scoop neck top I’m wearing is so basic but gives an illusion of an elongated neck and adds some feminine appeal by showing décolletage and not cleavage. I didn’t wear neck jewelry because I wanted my décolletage area to grab the attention without any adornment. The busyness of the bottom half of my look is balanced by the “cleanliness” of my top half of my look! I feel even better about my outfit because it was right from my closet! How do you “shop” your closet? What are some of your fave pieces currently in your closet?

Karla’s Summer Skirt

Last month I featured a dress that bought from a fashion line called The Line By K. I actually love this line. The owner Karla is genius! The silhouettes and fabrics are perfect for any body type and size in my opinion.

One thing that caught my eye on the site is this tulip hem, button down skirt in a peach color. The skirt is quite unique in my opinion in the sense that there aren’t many peach color skirts out there plus, the material is uber comfortable! It reminds me of a long john’s material but lightweight and airy! The skirt can be modified by buttons (either you can have more or less thigh showing and I opted for less) and compliments the body perfectly without restrictions.

To make this skirt pop, I paired it with a bright almost neon tank from Target, here’s a similar one from there too. The tank is basic so that it lends the glamour in whole to the skirt. My accessories are colorful to add layers to my outfit and my shoes are metallic gold to balance the contrast of the peach and turquoise. This outfit is extremely comfortable so I could wear it on a bar hopping date night. I’m not a girl that HAS to get super dressed up for dates. I’m more concerned about making the date count and having a blast! Well, let me know what you think? Are you still having fun dressing for the summer or are you over it yet? Lol.

Contemporary Casual

I generally miss most of the stores that used to be. Oh, I have a bonafide list of fashion stores that no longer exist that I wish I knew who to write to bring them back in business! Lol! Among those stores is one in particular by the name of Contempo Casuals.

I think they actually closed for good in 2000 or 2001, I’m not completely sure but it seems after Contempo Casuals closed all of the Wetseals, Forever 21s and other stores like them became extremely popular. I used to shop at places like Winklemans, Dots and of course Contempo Casuals. Well, I decided to wear a look inspired by the company as one of my favorite old stores to shop!

Back in the day, you could get real leather (before it became inhumane and offensive), real fur, and real wool designed to make the most fabulous pieces. My closet was amazing! I still have a few pieces from a few of my favorite places (and they are almost 20 years old), but I want to show some of the things you could put together from shopping at Contempo Casuals.

I’m calling this look Contemporary Casual. I simply grabbed one of my favorite pair of jeans and a slinky (ode to the 90s) mauve bardot top. In the 90s, there wasn’t need for a bunch of accessories in an outfit. So I’m not wearing much with this look. Of course I modernized the theory of this 90s inspired look with a chic handbag and chain detailed heeled sandals for an extra touch. Have you ever shopped at Contempo Casuals? If you have, do you remember the last thing you purchased?

P.S. I apologize for the low supply of pictures. I wasn’t feeling well.

“Hot As July”

It’s 100 degrees outside, my body is 98.6 (abnormal for me lol) but let’s talk about how to make your style “hot as July”! (Insert silly faces emojis here). Anyhoo, I can tell you that I am in the mood to celebrate nothing for no good reason. Nothing wrong with that right? Well, getting dressed up was extremely exciting for me because I’ve been working my tail of to get my body together. Yea I know, summer is already here. You know what? There’s always time to get yourself together, no matter how late it may seem. I may not have a summer body but my autumn body will be everything!

In spite of not reaching my summer body goals I am wearing a bodycon dress. I told you guys I’m celebrating nothing for no reason lol. Typically, a bodycon dress is worn for a night out but I wore mine for the day. Instead of wearing a dramatic statement necklace with it, I chose to wear a tribal inspired necklace with bright colors. It being so bright and sunny outside, the yellow sort of celebrates that. I threw on an old pair of Justfab heeled sandals to coordinate my dress, American Apparel clutch and necklace. Pretty simple right? It’s way too hot for a ton of pieces and jewelry. A simple dress and a couple of poppin accessories make for a look hot as July! Let me know what you think! What are some staples you love when it’s the middle of summer?

Pops!

Lately I’ve been shopping for fall findings and in the process finding items that are now too big so I’m getting rid of them. We’re in that point of summer that some of us are ready to wear fall clothes but it’s flaming hot outside lol. Needless to say, getting rid of things and feeling between seasons can pose an issue when the quantity of your wardrobe goes down. How to do you retain versatility in your wardrobe with little options?

Pops of color and patterns! When I first started blogging I had tons of clothes and shoes because I had accumulated them over a decade (at least). Not everyone has that “luxury”, blogger or not so being able to have versatility to give different looks with little means is an important part of styling. I recommend gathering accessories, (purses, belts, jewelry) in various colors against neutrals (and leopard print of course) to have more option with your looks. Check out how I mixed and matched and let me know what you think!
