How To Style: Casual Menswear 2021

As a child, my mother dressed me in plenty masculine clothes. Did I love it? Absolutely not! Ugh! I hated those baggy, brown plaid, squarely designed and patterned clothing. It was not me and I spent time trying to wear as many clingy pieces that I could when I got old enough.

As an adult, I somehow always find the appeal in menswear. I style my husband and son quite often because I love the intricacies of suits and accessories, matching and contrasting colors, plaids and stripes. Once when my son had school pictures, I dressed him in a hoodie and jeans. I couldn’t be “normal” though so I had to add a blazer on the outside and a button up shirt underneath the hoodie. He felt so cool and I think I almost loved the outfit more than he did!

I was a bit inspired this time around to wear something inspired by what my son wears these days. He’s almost a teen which I can’t believe but I enjoy watching him put things together. It gives me inspiration to get put together on days where I feel like being frumpy. Since I still feel frumpy most days, I wanted to put an outfit together that not only reflects that but something of a outfit that I can go out for drinks in and still feel cozy. Maybe it’s just me, quarantine can really damper the desire to get all dressed up!

I grabbed what I had in my closet but with tags still on and created the look I was going for: casual menswear. One of the most comfortable things I wear are my husbands shirts and joggers. This time I wore my clothes even though I felt like I was wearing his…but in style!

If you’ve enough of my blog posts you know that I love thrifting. I’ve thrifted some great one of a kind pieces. One piece that I happen to love is a vintage Detroit Pistons tee. I honestly can’t remember where I found this tee but I it almost immediately caught my attention.

This tee boasts a great contrast in color and the vintage Pistons logo makes this shirt a bit of a collectors item. Last year, I wore this shirt with a simple pair of jeans and a pair of my favorite sandals. Check it out here. This time around, it’s cooler outside and plus I wanted the look to be a bit more chic.

I opted for a cape, the ultimate style piece and a pair of nude pumps. I know, I know…it’s not Friday and I’m doing a casual look. Well this weather is telling me to keep my legs covered lol. Remember we talked about using leopard print as a neutral? I’m expressing that concept right here in this look! All the colors balance out very well and compliment each other. The tee remains the focal point and the cape provides a polished finish for style and warmth for functionality. I could easily swap out the pumps for a pair of nude pink ballet flats for more comfort. This look is perfect for the current basketball season. What do you think?

Sweater Season 2016

‘Tis the the season for sweaters! I am beyond excited to wear sweaters and blazers, chunky knits and colorful cardigans. I’m on the hunt for more sweaters (as if I don’t have enough) because I feel they are staple pieces that pretty much make the outfit with little effort. Of course the designs and types of sweaters are endless, no longer contained to basic colors and styles.

This season I have simply been in love with navy blue! When I started my search for the perfect sweater, I knew I would grab it in that color! Navy blue makes casual wear look so much more polished and chic. When I saw the sweater I’m wearing, I knew immediately that I wanted it. It has a cold shoulder (cut out) detailing as well as an oversized structure. This sweater is so soft and feels like I’m wearing a blanket! I’m always particular about not buying a sweater that pulls microscopic hairs on my body. We all know how uncomfortable that can be.

With my sweater, I chose to keep my look simple so I added a simple pair of dark jeans, black open toe booties and my favorite black leather clutch. This look can most definitely be worn on a cozy date night, for a lunch date or a day at the cider mill. This sweater is such a versatile piece it can easily be a wardrobe staple. This piece can be worn with a leather skirt, with overalls, faux leather or even wide leg pants. I’ll put the deets below for this outfit. Let me know what you think of this look! There will be more sweater outfits to come so stay “tuned”!

Shopping Bare/The Stylist

So I am uber excited to share some great news guys!! I am officially a stylist!!! Whew hoo!!! I can’t tell you how thrilled I am that my work will be in print! I’ve worked so hard! Through ups and down moments of being a style blogger, I finally feel like I’m headed in a good direction. Am I scared? I’m petrified! But I got this! Being scared is a good thing and allows for a person to accomplish a goal, build on self confidence and to be resourceful. I’ve been a little less present on my blog as I like but I needed to refocus and make a plan. That I’ve done. Now time to flourish!! I hope you all accompany me for the ride! Now onto my look…

So since I am now officially a stylist I wanted to dress the part. It’s Friday so I’ll be quick so we can get to enjoy our four day weekend! The highlight of my look are my striped bell bottom pants from Shopping Bare. Soooo comfy and stylish that they allow me to be able bend move when shopping for my client. The best part? They transition right into night time gear! Yup, I’d wear these right out! With my pants I paired a choker  detailed crop top. It’s long sleeved and worn under a longline flowy vest for a professional touch. My hat adds an eclectic touch to this look and remedies my bad hair day at the same time lol. My shoes and glasses are a pop of color (red). The glasses meant to give that “look” of a stylist. Okay, so that’s it! I’m out of here but leave your thoughts if you want to chat!

In Contrast…

I’m on a quest to keep color in my closet as my style changes again. Now of course although my style changes I keep certain things as signature to me. I’ve again been purging, getting rid a lot of thrifted items that are vibrant and full of multicolors. By the way, if you ever are interested in an item I’m wearing, feel free to shoot me an email or comment below!

I’ve been shopping for autumn attire (yes I know) and although it seems too soon, it’s a great time to get an idea of what you want in your wardrobe for the upcoming season. Anyhoo, one thing that will always be in my favorite styling ideas is contrasting colors and patterns for a bold look. Contrasting colors is always a great way to allow multiple colors to pop and stand out in an outfit. The easiest way to contrast? Black and white with a bright and bold color!

I did a little more contrasting with my look to grab your attention on not only my clothing but also my accessories. It’s okay to throw in some print. The print in my clutch already has a pattern of contrasting colors so it adds yet another “layer” to my look. My shoes are a bit of a nude without having to be skin tone, a medium gray color. These shoes help to elongate my legs but stand out against my skin at the same time. The statement necklace is the boldness in accessories needed to match extravagance of the cape. Let me know what you guys think!
