September/October Loves (Blogtober)

I hadn’t had a chance to do monthly favorites and due to being a mom, an ootd is not going up today. Sorry cupcakes! I promise this won’t be a regular occurrence. Anyhoo, I comprised a visual list of things that I am loving in September into this month. I bought yet another pair of feather heel sandals (from Missguided), a statement necklace and some makeup and beauty products I’m loving for this fall. I’ve made some redecorating efforts and am in love with gold spray paint lol. I will be shopping my closet this month (saving efforts) and I will be sharing things I have gone back to using. I have a series coming called “OOTD Shopping My Closet” where some of my loved pieces will be debuted to you guys to make up fabulous outfits. Stay tuned for Wednesday for another ootd. In the meantime, check out the pics below! Ciao cupcakes! 💋

Casual Friday

Warning: short post!

Brisk air, wind strong enough to mock Chicago’s windy days and not much sun called for the appropriate: a blazer. I bought this blazer a couple years back at a thrift store. It’s so great for the trends this fall and the color screams fall! My jeans are from H&M ($9.99) and my statement necklace & shoes, eBay. The shoes aren’t my favorite, the quality is well…I paid only $14.99 for them so they look and feel like the price. Ugh. Lesson learned. My crop tee is a Forever 21 purchase and the clutch, American Apparel. Let me know what you think! Pics to follow, talk to you Monday cupcakes!!

Almost "All Black Everything"

Raise your hand if you love a good sale! Okay well don’t really raise your hand, you might look a little crazy doing it. Lol. I happened upon a sale from Asos.com and let me tell you, that sale was the bees knees! There were so many great items available for below clearance-like prices. I was late to the sale and while much of the things I wanted were already gone, I was able to snag a cute black dress. The price: $14.99!!! Yes! I was so excited. I had another discount (10%) and saved a little more. Of course, since I am uber excited about the fall season, I put my foot down (to myself) and said that I was not going to wait any longer to wear my fall pieces. Hence, the inspiration behind this post. Back to my purchase, I didn’t have to wait long at all for my package (which made me even more excited) and I wish had been able to find more things (in my size) but…no bueno. My advice: if you can, keep an eye out for their sales because the good things go super fast!

My outfit is not really inspired by anything other than this dress that I was determined to wear. I love that it is still warm and wanted to wear Ankara print to compliment my outfit and “celebrate” the last bit of summer hanging around. I chose to wear one of my favorite pair of shoes, Ankara wedges by Aldo. These were apart of the “Julian Louie” collection from a few years back and I am just now wearing them. These were a hit and got TONS of attention. I chose a simple Justfab every day style bag so that the shoes and the dress got the spotlight. I popped on a dark lip “in honor” of fall lol and left the rest of my face pretty nude and glowy. Pretty simple right? Let me know what you think below and please stop by tomorrow for some helpful hints on building a wardrobe and finding your style! New OOTD Wednesday!

1997…

If you are into fashion like I am you know that one of the hottest trends poppin is the 90s trend. This trend like the others that have proceeded it, (the 60s, 70s and 80s trends) seem to most excite those that may not have been old enough to sport these styles when they originally hit the fashion world. I was old enough to wear both the 80s and the 90s style but that doesn’t mean that I don’t want to to take the opportunity now to sport some fashions that I had back in the day.

I found this dress in my stash that my mom bought for me back in 1997. This dress is th e same slinky material that you find at online retailer Missguided but has decorative detailing on the bottom. It has a split up the side that (for the sake of modesty) I put some biker shorts underneath to detract a bit of attention. The chest area has a bit of a cowl neck and it fits like a glove. I got this when I was in high school and because of its stretchy material, I can wear it today lol. In the 90s shows like “In the House”, “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” and “Martin” were extremely popular and inspired many looks during that time. The button up blouse I am wearing reminds me of those fashions on those shows. I decided to wear the shirt as a long line, oversized blazer for a bit of a cover up. My necklace screams 90s and it’s simple enough to not clutter the outfit.

I’m not by far a trendy girl but I thought it would be fun to kick it old school. Let me know what you think and see you Monday for another post! Have a blast this weekend cupcakes!

The Femininity of Plaid

So although summer is still hanging around, fall trends are upon us and we can all love on one of those trends: plaid. However, plaid is often thought of as masculine and some may not find a way to incorporate it into their wardrobe without the feeling like a…well, lumber jack lol. That’s understandable but making plaid feminine is actually possible.

The first thing that you can do is find feminine colors that compliment your skin color in this print. I personally chose the colors of pink, purple and turquoise. These colors create the most feminine but not too girly of a look if that makes any sense. The turquoise adds a nice balance. Next, decide what item of clothing you will choose in this print. I chose a button up shirt. The shirt itself is pretty masculine and continues to balance the feminine colors of the shirt. I decided on a solid color ankle pant that allows for my shoes to show. The solid color allows the shirt to take the shine and still compliment the entire outfit with another balance of color. Since my pants are ankle length, the nude color sandals that I am wearing (that match my skin tone) are able to show but the nude doesn’t detract from the “structure” of the entire look. I decided against a necklace. Side note: At first, I was going to go with a white chandelier necklace but I am going to save that accent for a future outfit with plaid. The bag is also seemingly masculine but is very appropriate for this look. Overall, the point is that small details can pull together a look. The plaid piece is what made this look more “feminine”. Let me know what you think of this look and stay “tuned” for another look Friday!

Simplicity & Sequins

Lately, not only have I been purging but I have also been simplifying my life. In harmomy with that mood, I’ve also been dressing the part which has made my style become more apparent (to myself). Fall is finally here…sort of, and I am excited to wear more clothes and create more looks. Skater skirts and dresses are fabulous on hourglass and pear shapes so I particularly love them as a basis for a great outfit. I paired this slate gray skater dress with tan belt for a contrast and my booties and necklace add more contrast as well as color. For a touch of glamour, I finished the fit with a sequined clutch I got as a gift from Julep. By the way, I’m loving this darker hair color! Let me know what you think of this look and see you back here Wednesday for another look!

Beauty Mondays: 90's Makeup (Fall 2015)

Warning: Long Post and plenty of pictures.

Is it obvious yet that I am ready for fall? Lol. Well, I just love the vampy fall colors in makeup and clothing that go with the season. I hate that winter follows, so that’s the only part I don’t like about Autumn. I was actually wearing makeup in the 90’s so I know first hand what he makeup looked like. There were browns, muted oranges, brick and burnt reds, dark lip liners, thick natural non-uniformed brows, and natural blush colors. I made some recent purchases that I would like to share as well as some oldies that I already had in my arsenal that go with the fall 90’s theme.

First up is nail polish. Essie’s new Leggy Collection has two colors that I swooned over at first sight. “With the Band” is a burnt but cool toned, sort of brick red that looks great against any skin tone and color in my opinion. It is the epitome of the 90’s. The other color by Essie I love is “In the Lobby”. This color is dark, vampy and bold. It boasts the look of a red based plum that reminds me of nail colors worn all the time two decades ago. The formula goes on really smooth and pigmented which I appreciate because even if you’re not professional, you can get that spa treatment look on your nails. Check out the pics below!

Still talking nail polishes, I have three polishes by Julep, two lacquers by Floss Gloss and one more by Revlon that fit right into my faves for the upcoming season. The Julep colors are: Sharna, Lindsay and Coco. All three are lovely and some of my fave colors. Sharna shines as a shabby golden bronze. The Floss Gloss colors are: “Gangsta Boo” (red) and “Blood Suede & Tears” (reddish burnt brown). These colors go on rather thin and can appear streaky if you are not great at polishing nails. Just sayin. The colors are absolutely 90’s and gorg!! THE perfect red! Lastly, Revlon has a color “Velvet Rope” that screams old school. I don’t know why but this color reminds me of Halle Berry circa 1994. These polishes are some some of my oldies but goodies. Check out all the pic below!

Next is makeup! My favorite part! I have some lipsticks, a blush, a bronzing highlighter and a lip cream that I am showcasing. I absolutely can’t wait til Autumn so I can start rocking these beauties. Before I get into color, I actually grabbed MAC’s Fix + spray as I LOVE it so much! I’ve tried other sprays low and higher end and I always go back to my Fix +. It blends my makeup so well and will be another staple this upcoming season. The blush I’m loving for the upcoming season is MAC’s Ambering Rose. The bronzing highlighter in Glistening Sun  (by Maybelline Dream Mousse) has a similar effect. It offers a natural highlight without the intensity and extreme glitters of other highlighters. It totally reminds of a glorious sunset in the container and the glow of one when applied to the face. It’s warm orangey tone and small flacks of shimmer brighter the face naturally as it adds a sheen. The lip cream is obviously by Nyx and the color is London. I think that it is the perfect nude for fall. It’s warm and has a pink and peach undertone that won’t wash out the skin. For lipsticks, I chose all MAC lipsticks (not on purpose) but they all remind me of colors I wore in the 90s. All except two colors are limited edition but you can find dupes for the limited edition colors. Check out the pics below and let me know what beauty products you are planning to use this fall!

Designer Indulgences: Balmain Pre-Fall 2015 (Review)

Dare I say that I am already looking at fall clothing?! Ugh! I LOVE the summer and spring but in true fashionista form, I can’t help but to see what design are getting cranked out for cooler seasons. Now, rarely do I see clothing that makes me want to get out of my seat and dance but I just got back in my chair from shaking my tail feather! If you are not familiar with Balmain, please do yourself a favor and check out his designs. I, (eager to see what I could) looked through pictures from NYFW (posted online in March of this year) and was pleasantly floored by what I saw. Check out my favorite pics below and afterwards, read my review and take away….

 Review

One word description: BOLD

I am in pure love with this collection. The colors and the demonstrative fabrics make for shows topping fashion. I enjoyed seeing wide leg pants, flowy and popping with color. The belts are very unique and are diverting inspiration for copy cat designers to make wide belts with large buckles. The floral prints are overwhelming and yet work correctly for the fabrics they cover. This collection will definitely be my inspiration for styling this fall/winter.

Take Away:

If could buy everything, I would!! I can’t, so inspiration is the key.  This fall will be all about texture. Print “textures”, fabric textures and mixing textures. Satin paired with velvet, prints complimenting a solid color piece and PLAID!! Let’s not forget the floral and all of its glory. It has nicely been paired with stripes that have otherwise not been considered flattering, that of black and red. These stripes however help make the floral print stand out, I sincerely love mixing prints. I will be wearing stains, velvety, stripes, floral prints as well as bold but deep colors this fall. I plan to incorporate belts and wide leg pants in my fall wardrobe. So, what do you think of this collection? Is there anything in particular that caught your eye? Share!
